The play follows Caroline “Carey” Walker, a young theater director whose latest show, an outdoor production of a new version of Faust, is falling apart. It’s been raining, the sets and costumes are not ready, and the actors are still calling for lines.
Carey has three people in her life determined to help her: her mother, also a high school theater director; a young college graduate brought in by Carey’s mother to assist; and the show’s leading lady, who also happens to be a good friend of Carey’s.
On top of the show’s issues, a recent medical diagnosis threatens to unravel Carey’s life completely.
Carey by Design is a new play written by Justin Rielly, a four-time TANYS-winning theater artist. He is also the founder of Aspie Works. He will also direct this premiere reading for the Pandemic Play Reading Series.
